Discovering San Vincenzo

The Sailor's Promenade | This pedestrian path starts near the tourist port and follows the harbour dam to the impressive Sailor statue. Inaugurated in 2010, the promenade stretches for about a kilometre, providing a captivating view of moored boats and the vast expanse of azure sea. Along the way, six mosaics created by artist Daniela Magrì Troina, inspired by the inner search for one's identity, adorn the route. At the end of the promenade stands the monumental statue (six meters tall) crafted by master Giampaolo Talani (San Vincenzo, 1955 – Pisa, 2018), now recognized as the largest port art piece in Europe.

Giampaolo Talani's Frescoes and the Church of San Vincenzo Ferreri | The oldest among the city's three churches, centrally located, was built in 1855 to replace the old oratory. Inside, it houses "The Crucifixion" by Carlo Guarnieri (Campiglia Marittima, 1892 – Grosseto, 1988, one of the world's greatest woodcut artists) and notably a cycle of twelve frescoes by Giampaolo Talani (San Vincenzo, 1955 – Pisa, 2018). Commissioned in 1978 and executed between 1979 and 1989, these frescoes represent a rare example of contemporary artwork. Covering 200 square meters of fresco painting, Talani depicted eight episodes from the life of Christ and the Evangelists (in the pendentives at the four inner corners of the building) with a vigorous and luminous style influenced by Expressionist and Post-Expressionist masters (James Ensor, Guillaume Vogels).

The Tower | The coastal tower of San Vincenzo was built in 1304 by Jacopo da Peccioli and Londo Eroli, commissioned by the Republic of Pisa after the destruction of Biserno Castle. Following internal conflicts leading to the castle's destruction, the Republic of Pisa decided to protect the coast by constructing the Tower, equipped with a customs office and loading dock, thus giving rise to the first community of San Vincenzo. Centuries later, the tower witnessed the significant battle between the Pisans and Florentines on August 5, 1505. The battle is also depicted in the large triptych by painter Daniele Govi (1990), currently located in the Council Chamber of the building.

Govi's paintings in the Blue Room depict landscapes of San Vincenzo. Renovation efforts in the early 2000s revealed the ancient staircase leading to the Tower, now visible through a glass floor.

Rimigliano Park | A charming park established by the Tuscany Region in 1973, covering an area with six kilometres of sandy coastline, dunes, and a natural wooded area. It provides numerous access points to "free beaches."
